I am a writer of fiction, nonfiction and poetry and live and work in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I’ve had short stories, essays and poems published in december (forthcoming), Ploughshares, Mid-American Review, Ars Medica and Chautauqua, among others. I am grateful for the recognition given my fiction writing by the kind people at Connotation Press. From about 2014 to 2018, you can find my byline at a number of Tiger Oak Media community lifestyle magazines, including Edina, St. Louis Park, Maple Grove and Plymouth Magazines. I even edited a new title there (City South Magazine), but lost that job in spring of 2018. Since then, I’ve had a few pieces published at https://www.nextavenue.org, and my most recent best news is that Anne Tyler (Yup! THE Anne Tyler) chose my story, “Portage,” as the winner in a december magazine short story contest. The story will be published in November of 2018.
My education consists of degrees in Biology and Physical Therapy and a host of writing classes taken and taught at The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. Honors include a Loft Mentorship with Sandy Benitez and Peter Ho Davies, mentorship with Benjamin Percy, and a MN Emerging Writer grant. I’ve been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and am cited for my story, “Seizure,” (Ploughshares, Spring 2014) in the “Other Distinguished Stories of 2014” pages of Best American Short Stories 2015.
